Bracknell MP, Dr Phillip Lee has been lobbying hard for broadband improvements in coverage and speed in the whole of the Bracknell Constituency.
Dr Lee met with BT senior officials to discuss local broadband coverage and access to Fibre Optic Broadband. As one of the leaders of the campaign to increase broadband coverage in rural areas, Dr Lee raised concerns with senior BT officials about the provision of super-fast broadband in areas such as Finchampstead.
10 per cent of the world’s information technology businesses are based in the Thames Valley, and it is unacceptable that Bracknell constituents, particularly IT professionals, have suffered for so long without proper broadband provision. Dr Lee is committed to ensuring that progress is made.
Internet and ecommerce is playing an ever important role in regenerating the economy, contributing more than £34.9 billion in the first six months of the year, according to IMRG Capgemini e-Retail Sales index. Yet businesses in rural areas are unable to take advantage of this growth.
Dr Lee says “I am pleased that the Government is investing money to help bring broadband to every home and business in Berkshire. Bracknell constituency has suffered long enough from painfully slow internet connections. I will make sure that in this digital era, my constituents will benefit from better broadband provision. I also urge local authorities to work with us at ensuring faster improvements. The internet has changed the world. We cannot allow anyone in the UK to be left behind.”
