The Mayor of Bracknell Forest Cllr Tony Virgo recently opened a new balance beam and nature trail at South Hill Park.
The balance beam is the length of the tallest tree in South Hill Park, a Wellingtonia, 30 metres long and there are 16 wooden and metal wildlife sculptures. Conservative Cllr Iain McCracken, executive member for culture, corporate services and public protection, said: “We are delighted to be able to provide these new features, which are free to use and available at all times, and hope that they will increase people’s enjoyment and understanding of the park. Ensuring that local people can easily access good leisure and recreational facilities is important in promoting health and wellbeing and in maintaining the high quality standards to which we aspire to manage our parks and open spaces.”
The balance beam contains round discs along its length with different facts about trees and nature and was created by local sculptor Nick Speakman of 3D Wood. The wooden and and metal wildlife sculptures are found along the nature tail, some of which are hanging from branches or hiding in trees.
