Cllr Paul Bettison, the longest serving unitary leader in the country, is delighted to have been honoured with an OBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List for his hard work as Leader of Bracknell Forest Council since 1997. Cllr Bettison has steered a steady course through six elections and each time there has been an increase in the number of Conservative seats on the Council.
This is a much deserved honour and particularly special as it is part of the Queen’s 90th Birthday Honours List. ““It’s nice to be acknowledged but it’s really for the work of the whole council,” says Cllr Bettison.
“This award is significant and reflects a successful tenure of 18 years where we always balance our budgets and are benchmarked as one of the highest performing unitaries. A remarkable award and achievement,” says Cllr Peter Heydon, executive member Bracknell Forest Council.
