This evening at the Full Council meeting of Bracknell Forest Councillors, Members unanimously backed the formal creation of a new Property Joint Venture. A project that forms for next stage of £124m regeneration of Bracknell Town Centre and delivering on our Manifesto Committment at the Local Elections in 2019, and building on previous manifesto commitments to Regenerate our town centre
Bracknell Forest Council is leading on widescale town centre rejuvenation which continues the long-term economic development of the town that has progressed over recent years with the delivery of The Lexicon and other major developments.
A newly formed partnership with Bracknell Forest Council will initially focus on the redevelopment of three council-owned sites at Market Street, Jubilee Gardens and Coopers Hill. Countryside will also support the council team in masterplanning and delivering other town centre development including residential, community, employment, leisure and public open space.
The first three sites have the potential to deliver approximately 400 homes, of which up to 35% will be affordable, alongside a new health centre, restaurant, gym, office space, community space and public art. The first planning applications will be submitted in early 2021 with construction aimed to commence later in the year.
The redevelopment of these three sites in the town centre will deliver significant economic value to the borough overall. The council’s share of development proceeds will be reinvested into the borough’s front line services. Additionally, the partnership is committed to creating social value focusing on the health and wellbeing of residents and the wider community,
Cllr Marc Brunel-Walker, Executive Member for Economic Development and Regeneration at Bracknell Forest Council, commented: “Bracknell Forest Council is delighted to welcome Countryside as joint-venture partner for the next phase in Bracknell town centre’s overall regeneration.
“The council has a strong track record of working closely with developers to regenerate the town centre, which is taking place in phases. The first two phases were hugely successful with the award winning The Lexicon being delivered to provide the borough’s social and cultural heart.
“This next phase is very exciting as it will see three key town centre sites redeveloped to provide new homes, retail, leisure, community, art and health facilities and so we are looking forward to working closely with Countryside to turn our aspirations in to reality.”
